Natural Health Practitioners
Natural health practitioners use procedures that stimulate, or strengthen, the body so that it is better able to utilize intrinsic self-healing processes.
These practices include, but are not limited to, the use of manipulative bodywork (i.e. massage therapy), deep breathing (i.e. Qi Gong), exercise (i.e. Pilates) and energy work (i.e. Healing Touch)
We currently represent about 6500 natural health practitioners throughout Canada. This membership number continues to grow.
We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
A principal goal of the NHPC is to provide members with continuing competency opportunities and vital information on a wide variety of issues so that they may grow professionally and improve the services they provide to clients.

Continued Competency
NHPC supports the concepts of continued competence, lifelong learning, and ongoing professional development as identified in the NHPC Code of Ethics, core values and standards that guide and reflect a professional, effective and competent natural health care practice (see Centre for Learning).

National Natural Health Standards
NHPC sets competency-based standards for NHPC recognized natural health disciplines and modalities (see Recognized Modalities). Member applicants must have a program certificate of completion from an NHPC recognized school (see Recognized Programs) and have a valid municipal license if required to practice their discipline(s).
A ‘key’ component to safety and risk reduction is, regardless of the practitioners discipline, sufficient anatomy, physiology, pathology, evaluation, assessment and communication/conduct skills.
NHPC works to ensure the highest standards of professionalism and ethical practices of its members through the enforcement of a Code of Ethics (see Code of Ethics).

Membership Benefits
Joining the NHPC is one of the best career investments practitioners can make (see Join NHPC). We provide medical malpractice and general liability insurance, professional credibility, and a strong advocacy voice – to name just a few of our membership benefits.

Inclusive Regulation and the Multi-Category Model for Massage
The Multi-Category Model of Massage (see Multi-Category Model for Massage) offers broad, comprehensive public protection. It accomplishes this, by including and monitoring all practicing massage therapists. All practitioners are held accountable and scrutinized for their competency (within their scope of practice area) and adherence to ethical practices.
An inclusive model of regulation provides a platform for Canadians continued choice in health and wellness by providing safe access to the full spectrum of massage therapies they are currently choosing.
