THE MYOFASCIAL CUPPING TECHNIQUE™ - FOUNDATION COURSE
Locations: Saskatoon & Edmonton
Instructor: Paul Buffel & Monty Churchman
Register: www.comphs.com.au

INTRODUCTION
The Myofascial Cupping Technique™ can provide profound benefits for your clients, particularly with assisting the body in maintaining Range Of Motion, eliminating Myofascial Trigger Points and reducing restrictive and sometimes-painful fascial adhesions commonly found from repetitive movement originating from sports and the workplace. By reducing fascial adhesions, while encouraging optimal hydration levels of soft tissue, Myofascial Cupping can assist in reducing the incidence of injury and maintaining functional soft tissue.

The Myofascial Cupping Technique™ is a fabulous addition to the toolbox for Massage Therapists. It is a modified version of the ancient Eastern-style cupping with major differences that include targeting the musculoskeletal system rather than meridian systems used by traditional Chinese practitioners and using the cups in a moving sequence, rather than stationery.

Dave’s special interest with burns patients has lead to the beginnings of a future Clinical Trial in Hobart Hospital Burns Clinic. We have a short documentary demonstrating Dave’s techniques showing positive effect on burns scar tissue reducing ‘contracture’ and associated neurogenic pain along with discussion regarding how these techniques translate perfectly into the clinic for other types of scar tissue work.

This Level 1 foundation course is similar to the course David has taught to Physiotherapists and Soft Tissue Therapists at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, which is the peak body for elite athletes in Australia.

LEAD INSTRUCTOR - PAUL BUFFEL

Paul works within a dynamic clinical practice on the leadership team of the multi-disciplinary Broadway Health Collective in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. With over 25 years in practice Paul utilizes the Myofascial Cupping Technique™ within his treatments on the mat or on the table, exploring the rhythms and stillness that support our capacity for adaptation, systemic resilience and healing.

Paul is also engaged in matters of regulation of the Massage Therapy Profession in Saskatchewan through membership with the Council of Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation (CLEAR), having completed the Executive Leadership course for Regulators, and sits on the Saskatchewan College of Massage Therapy Working Group. Paul brings his experience as past Board Member and President of the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC) and the fun of being a Board Member of Canada’s first Fat Bike Club, Fatlanders Fat Tire Brigade, to enrich his work within the profession, his teaching, and with clients.

How does it work?
By creating a Negative Pressure (tensional) above the surface of the tissues, we decrease the atmospheric pressure allowing the tissue to be lifted and thus causing changes in pressure beneath the skin including the muscle and surrounding fascia. Importantly, our gliding technique creates a traditional MFR technique (push/compression effect) using the leading rim of the cup, which is then followed by a ‘lifting’ negative pressure over the same area (pull effect). As the cup leaves the area we once again create a push/compression effect.

LEAD INSTRUCTOR - MONTY CHURCHMAN
